When used for recording, there is little extraneous noise created by the headset, a problem with some other headsets I've used. This is a great, moderately priced headset for recording audio as well as for VOIP and chat. All in all, a good value; not the cheapest headset available, but far from the most expensive. The only drawback I've found is low recording volume through the DSP, although this can be readily corrected by recording software. It comes with an analog plug as well as a USB DSP. The headset is comfortable for extended wear, as it is light and the earpiece is adequately padded.
I would avoid this item.Note, this review is for the Plantronics 470 (USB) headset. However, mine broke after 30 days of relatively light use (for Skype only). The sound quality is impressive, for both headset and microphone. The folding design is nice.
the rest of the stuff we all gotta manage it. I had baught this almost a year ago and have used constantly for communicating with my little girl in Scottland. For skype calls i do realize there are too many factors to make the sound good:Mobile boradband vs local internet (DSL, Fiber etc).Computers used on both endsThe actual connection speeds on both sidesof course the headset and mic used. I got so much rhich sound out of these on both ends, that i am buying a 2nd pair for myself.
I had been late actually to write a review on these as on many of the audio products i buy. Just to affirm with everyone here reading this, the following machines are being used:in KSA: Apple iMac MB324LL/A 20-inch Desktop PC (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive) / 2Mbps WyMax connection (Usually during skype is shout donw anything else that is using the bandwidth of my internet connection) In Scottland:ASUS Eee PC 901 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 12 GB Solid State Drive, 20 GB E-Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine EbonyUniversity connection which varies during the days but averaging about 54MbpsOccasionally will use an O2 Mobile broadband USB with a 3.6Mbps HSDPA ConnectionOf course these headsets. I am convinced that the sound quality should not be a factor in this entire mix. Thats usually the case since i usually measure it up after a good time of usage.
Since the pair i already have will be left behind here with my little girls to skype with daddy. Since this unit has a USB connection for managing both Mic and output audio, i switched the audio output to some small iPod speakers since 2 year toddlers don't really like thing over there heads. This headset is no exception. When i came to the residnece in UK i was checking the connections with several of my SKYPE friends and they (back home in KSA) can notice and pick up the diffrence between a standard speaker/mic skype call VS a call made with this headset.
Sound quality is very good, as is rejection of other noise. However, I've had no problems whatsoever with the headset - it's performed perfectly. Proper mic placement (not directly in front of the mouth) is essential to avoid recording breathing sounds, but I think that is true of all headsets of this style. If I had to replace it with a similar USB headset/mic, I'd buy the same thing again. I've used the DSP400 for about 6 months to a record weekly podcast. I was a little worried at first because the headset seemed a little fragile and the wires are very thin.
Headset was sold for 1/2 price to someone else. Did not like the way they folded, I was not pleased at all. I have had several other Plantronics Products in the past and was very satisfied, this one was just not a good fit or of any use to me. This product was rated High for use with Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Voice Recognition. Did not like the way they fit, folding hinge dug into scalp.
